How this tool works
Initial tokens unlock at the start. Remaining tokens vest continuously after the cliff until the end. Total duration includes the cliff.
A worked example
10,000 tokens, 10% initial, a three-month cliff and 12-month duration: at the end of month 12, all 10,000 tokens are unlocked.
Assumptions & limits
This model does not accumulate a catch-up release at the cliff. Dates use UTC midnight with month-end clamping. Actual contracts can use discrete releases or different cliff rules. Verify the project schedule.

Token vesting describes when an allocation becomes available under a release schedule. This calculator models an optional initial unlock at the start, followed by continuous linear vesting after a cliff. The end date includes the cliff period. It is a planning model and does not read a project’s smart contract.
How to use this tool
- Enter token allocation, start date, initial unlock percentage and total duration in months.
- Set a cliff shorter than the total duration, then select the date you want to evaluate.
- Calculate unlocked and locked tokens. Review the sample milestone table and compare the stated assumptions with the actual project contract.
Frequently asked questions
What happens at the cliff in this vesting calculator?
The initial unlock, if any, is available at the start date. The rest does not vest before the cliff. At the cliff it begins vesting continuously, without a catch-up release for the elapsed cliff period.
Is the cliff included in the total vesting duration?
Yes. A 12-month duration with a three-month cliff ends 12 months after the start. The remaining allocation vests over the nine months after the cliff in this model.
Why might a project’s actual token unlock differ?
Contracts can use monthly or discrete unlocks, different initial-release rules, catch-up cliffs or timestamps other than UTC midnight. This tool uses UTC dates, actual elapsed time and month-end clamping. Verify the project’s source schedule.
