Position sizing converts a chosen loss budget into a token quantity. Divide the amount you are willing to risk by the distance between entry price and stop price. This tool supports long and short setups and shows position notional so you can compare exposure with account balance.
How to use this tool
- Enter your account balance and the percentage of it you choose to risk.
- Choose long or short, then enter entry and stop prices in the same currency. A long stop is below entry; a short stop is above entry.
- Calculate token quantity, planned loss at the stop and position notional. Account separately for fees, gaps and execution risk.
Frequently asked questions
What is the formula for crypto position size?
Token quantity equals account balance multiplied by risk percentage, divided by the absolute difference between entry and stop prices. Express the percentage as a fraction in the formula: 1% is 0.01.
Does a stop loss guarantee the calculated loss?
No. A stop order can execute at a worse price during gaps, fast markets or poor liquidity. The calculation assumes execution exactly at your stop and excludes fees and slippage.
Why can position notional exceed my balance?
A very narrow stop can imply a large position for the same risk budget. The tool reports that exposure but does not check purchasing power, leverage requirements, margin or liquidation.
