A CLEARER UNDERSTANDING

Crypto Average Buy Price Calculator

The average buy price of a cryptocurrency is the total amount spent acquiring it divided by the number of tokens acquired. Purchases of different sizes need a quantity-weighted average, rather than a simple average of their prices. This tool also includes fixed purchase fees in the quote currency.

How to use this tool

  1. Add one row for each purchase of the same token.
  2. Enter the token quantity, unit price and fee amount for each row. Use one quote currency throughout.
  3. Calculate the combined holdings, total cost and average cost per token. Add or remove rows to compare purchases.

Frequently asked questions

Is average buy price the same as the average of my purchase prices?

Only when quantities are equal and fees do not change the result. Buying two tokens at 100 and one at 160 gives an average price of 120, not 130.

How are fees included in the average cost?

Each fee is added as a fixed amount to that purchase’s quantity multiplied by price. The combined cost is then divided by total tokens. Fees are assumed to be paid separately rather than deducted from tokens.

Can I calculate my tax cost basis here?

This is a purchase-only planning estimate. It does not model sales, transfers, lots, FIFO or jurisdiction-specific tax accounting, so it should not be used as a tax record.
