Kraken parent Payward announced on October 14 that it had signed an agreement to acquire Saldo Finance Oy, the Finnish holding company of Lithuania-licensed Saldo Bank.
According to Payward’s announcement, completion is expected in 2027 and remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. The acquisition has not been presented as a completed transaction.
A banking layer for Europe
Payward says Saldo’s infrastructure would support its European plans for deposits, lending, cards, and services supplied to other financial-technology businesses.
Saldo already offers term deposits in Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, and Germany, according to the announcement, and has passporting into the Netherlands.
What remains to happen
Approval, completion, and product rollout are separate milestones. An acquisition agreement does not mean every proposed service is immediately available to Kraken customers.
Compyvila’s reading: the development is significant because it concerns regulated banking infrastructure alongside crypto trading. Customers should still check which legal entity provides each service and which terms apply.
