BEHIND THE NUMBERS

How this tool works

Fee in ETH = gas used × (base fee + priority fee) ÷ 1,000,000,000.

A worked example

21,000 gas at 20 gwei base plus 2 gwei priority costs 0.000462 ETH.

Assumptions & limits

Estimates Ethereum execution fees, excluding blob fees and extra L2 charges. Actual gas used can be lower than the gas limit. A simple ETH transfer often uses 21,000 gas; contract calls vary. Enter 0 for ETH price to omit USD.

Ethereum Gas Fee Calculator: Gwei to ETH & USD

An Ethereum execution fee is estimated by multiplying gas used by the effective price per gas. In this tool, the effective price is the assumed base fee plus priority fee. Entering both in gwei lets the calculator show the total in ETH, with an optional USD estimate from your own ETH price.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter estimated gas used. A simple ETH transfer often uses 21,000, while contract interactions can use more.
  2. Enter the assumed base and priority fees in gwei. These are manual estimates, not current network quotes.
  3. Optionally enter an ETH price in USD. Calculate total fee and its base-fee and priority-fee components.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Ethereum gas fee formula?

Estimated execution fee in ETH equals gas used multiplied by base fee plus priority fee, divided by 1,000,000,000. For 21,000 gas and 22 gwei combined, the fee is 0.000462 ETH.

Is gas used the same as the gas limit?

No. Gas limit is the maximum allowed for execution; gas used is the amount actually consumed. Using the limit as an estimate can overstate the final fee when execution uses less gas.

Does this calculate live Ethereum or Layer 2 fees?

No. Inputs are manual, and this models Ethereum execution fees only. Blob fees, additional Layer 2 charges and fee-cap behavior are outside the model. The network conditions at execution may differ.
