The project, in context.
What it does
Unichain is an Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Uniswap Labs with a focus on decentralized finance. Its launch announcement describes an OP Stack network in the Superchain ecosystem, intended to support applications such as trading, lending, and liquidity provision. See the original announcement.
The 2025 milestone
Public mainnet launched on February 11, 2025. This profile records that mainnet milestone, rather than the date Unichain was first announced or the founding date of Uniswap Labs. Earlier testnet activity belongs to a different stage of the project’s history.
Network and token context
The official network reference identifies ETH as the network currency. Paying gas with ETH is different from buying a token issued specifically for a new network. The token field is intentionally left blank here to avoid presenting an ecosystem or gas asset as a dedicated Unichain token.
What to research
- Compare the current rollup, bridge, and withdrawal documentation before moving assets between networks.
- Identify the specific application and contract you intend to use; a network launch does not establish that every application is suitable for you.
- Separate liquidity incentives from sustained demand when evaluating ecosystem growth.
- Treat launch-day performance claims as dated statements, not measurements of today’s conditions.
